Each class has an assigned Class Library Time to visit the library each week (Kindergarten is on a bi-weekly schedule).
In Addition to regular class times, the library is open for book exchange before and after school as well as specified times during each day.
Students may check out two (2) books at a time. Books are due and should be returned or renewed each week during the students Class Library Time. Books that are not checked in or renewed are considered overdue. We do not charge overdue fees, but the student may not check out additional books until the overdue book is returned or the lost book fee is paid.
Students are responsible for lost or damaged books and must pay for them. The Lost Book Fee is the price of the book plus a $2 processing fee. (An average book this year cost $20+) A book will be considered lost when it is 3 weeks overdue. Students with lost books may not check out books until the lost book is returned or the Lost Book Fee is paid. If a book is found after the fee has been paid, a refund will only be made if the book is returned within 30 days.
Please help your student take proper care of the books.
Students should be positive, kind, polite, and respectful in the library. The resources available in the library belong to Lakeside Elementary and the privilege of the library may be taken away if behavior is disrespectful.
The Davis Reads theme this year is “A Bright Future” and Lakeside’s theme is “Lakeside Lions are OUT OF THIS WORLD”. Students will engage in these themes throughout the year through stories, maker stations, book talks, and presentations. They will learn important library and research skills based on their grade level according to Davis School District DESK Standards and State Library CORE Curriculum.
Selection Policy: The Lakeside Library goal is to have a current, engaging, relevant, and diverse collection. Our library serves a broad age range and not every book in the library will be appropriate for each student in the school. If a book does not work for your student, they are encouraged to return it and check out another book.
The Library Media DESK focuses and prioritizes the reading and information literacy skills that students need to know and be able to use to help them read and research effectively in all subjects and with a variety of technologies.
