Students play Olympic games.

Lakeside Elementary transformed its gym and playground into a mini Winter Olympic venue as students took part in classroom‑friendly Olympic games designed to teach teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition.

All grade levels rotated through a series of activity stations that translated winter sports into safe, indoor‑and‑outdoor challenges. Events included relay challenges that tested speed and cooperation, balance races to build core strength and focus, and target tosses modeled after curling that emphasized strategy and precision. Teachers adapted each activity so students of every age and ability could participate and succeed.

Physical education teacher Coach Patterson noted that the simplified events gave students a chance to practice gross motor skills and cooperative problem‑solving in a playful setting.

The school paired the activities with brief classroom lessons about Winter Olympic history and the values the Games promote. Teachers reported that students were excited to connect real‑world sportsmanship to their everyday interactions at school.

By the end of the day, smiles, high‑fives and improvised medal ceremonies made clear that Lakeside’s mini Olympics achieved its goal: getting kids moving, learning, and celebrating together.
