Lakeside Elementary recently hosted a special Read S'more Read-a-thon Celebration to honor students who completed the 45-day summer reading challenge. The festive event brought together dedicated young readers for an afternoon of stories, prizes, and outdoor reading fun.
Students who met the challenge were treated to s'more themed refreshments and received stickers, bookmarks, and squishes as rewards for their reading dedication throughout the summer months.
The celebration featured a special story time led by school librarian Mrs. Angie, who read I Wish I Had a Dragon with Marshmallows by Diane Alber to the enthusiastic audience. Principal Lowery added excitement to the event by conducting a raffle for attendees, with lucky winners taking home prizes including board games and a giant stuffed cow.
The highlight of the afternoon saw students spreading out across the front lawn with blankets and tents, enjoying their books in the sunshine and celebrating their shared love of reading.
The summer reading challenge encourages students to maintain their literacy skills during the break from school while fostering a lifelong love of reading.
